Multimedia Project in MeelaghThe Living Memories story started in September 2010, through a collaboration between Multimedia Artist Fernando Tunon and the Meelagh Community centre for Travellers, in a project that was seed funded by Cork City Council's “Community Arts Development Fund” and supported by Cork Community Art Link. The project grew from the idea that the Traveller community in Ireland was mainly documented by professionals who didn’t belong to the community itself. Our goal was multiple. Explore the need that the Traveller community has to keep, restore and show their own memories, while empowering them with the tools and knowledge to continue the whole process. Graphic design workshops have been given to the younger generation to get their hands on the technology required for the process through scanning, printing and photo editing, while stories have been recording with the older ones. This website aims to gather stories and photos, as a testimony of what the Traveller community was, is and hopes to be, turning their history into living memories. From them, by them and for all. |
